Job description

PTHI is seeking to hire a national expert for the position of Forestry Specialist based out of our Bogor office. As a Forestry Specialist, your overall responsibility is contribute to project deliverables based on tasks assigned by the Project Manager (PM) and/or Project Director (PD). We expect he/she can provide a suitable level of technical competency in the subject area(s) for which his responsible. Your role includes supporting proposal development, project implementation and coordinating and supervising other staff and/or sub-consultants. As part of his responsibilities, he/she will also support marketing and business development activities with the purpose of developing new opportunities for the Company. In addition, he/she may be asked to assume some management responsibility, at the project level, as a Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager.


Role and Responsibilities
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary teams to undertake projects related to forestry, carbon and natural resource surveys, impact assessments, and due diligence in compliance with national regulations and international standards.
  • Support the delivery of project team activities including preparation of project work plans, schedules, budgets, and technical activities including workshops, consultations, and focus group discussions.
  • Assist in preparing various documents, including proposals and project reports, while also compiling and analyzing data. Ensure all data are carefully stored and safely transported to PTHI’s office in Bogor.
  • Ensure QA/QC on project outputs to ensure the highest possible standards to meet corporate and client standards.
  • Support marketing and business development activities including marketing and business development with potential clients and remain proficient with the direction and status of industry trends and opportunities. 
  • Support the implementation of Company QHSE systems and policies.

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry from a reputable university. A master’s degree from a reputable university will be an advantage.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in the field of forestry projects, either in a forestry company or an environmental consultancy.
  • Experience in managing and conducting carbon assessments / studies especially in Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector in accordance with national guidelines and international standards (e.g., Verra VCS-CCBS, Gold Standards, among others).
  • Proficient in natural resource valuation, environmental economic and financial feasibility analysis.
  • Proficient with Indonesian regulations related to forestry.
  • Proficient with general forestry issues in Indonesia. Knowledge of biodiversity, REDD and sustainable forest management will be an advantage.
  • Experience with forest and oil palm certification schemes will be an advantage.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, managing complex projects, and delivering high-impact results. Self-starter with excellent organizational skills.
  • Able to deliver technical support, program evaluation, and program and policy recommendations for assigned program areas.
  • Professional-level fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia is required.
  • Computer skills required: MS Office, MS Excel and Statistical Software. Skills in GIS will be advantageous but not necessary.
