What does it mean to become an Asset-Lookdev Senior/Lead?

  • Define the artistic and technical direction for asset look development, reviewing team deliverables to ensure visual quality, consistency, and production readiness.
  • Oversee the creation of high-quality shaders, materials, textures, and look development setups that align with the project's artistic vision and physically based rendering standards.
  • Plan, assign, and monitor team workload to ensure assets are delivered on schedule while meeting creative and technical requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with Modeling, Lighting, FX, and other departments to ensure seamless integration of assets throughout the production pipeline.
  • Ensure consistency in material definition, shading, rendering quality, and asset optimization across projects.
  • Drive continuous improvements to look development workflows, rendering pipelines, tools, and team knowledge through R&D and knowledge sharing.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership or teamwork, great communication, artistic judgment, and problem-solving skills while performing effectively under production deadlines.

Job requirements

  • Minimum 4–6 years of professional experience in asset look development for VFX, animation, or film productions.
  • Expert knowledge of look development, shader creation, physically based materials, and rendering workflows for production environments.
  • Strong proficiency in V-Ray, Chaos Solaris, or equivalent rendering technologies, with a solid understanding of modern rendering pipelines.
  • Extensive experience with Houdini Solaris for look development, lighting, and USD-based workflows.
  • Strong understanding of texturing workflows, shader optimization, AOV management, ACES color management, and physically based rendering principles.
  • Solid knowledge of USD workflows and production pipelines, with experience collaborating across Modeling, Lighting, FX, and Compositing departments.
  • Experience with scripting or pipeline development (e.g., Python) to improve workflow efficiency is a strong plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to optimize rendering performance, shader efficiency, and pipeline integration.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or reviewing the work of Lookdev or Asset artists in a production environment is a plus.
